With skyrocketing health and health insurance costs, dwindling health benefits for employees, growing complexities in governmental regulations and the economy going south, how can the small business owner and individual consumer maintain health protection and be able to afford it? Which is the best vehicle: HSA; FSA; HRA; stand alone health insurance; self insuring with insurance against catastrophic risk; or flying without a net? Or an intelligent combination of two or more of these?

Communication tools for employers to advise employees of choices and changes. Comparing, contrasting and complying with discrimination and comparability rules. Complete economic and tax analysis of and step-by-step guide through: Health Savings Accounts (HSAs); Health Reimbursement Plans (HRAs); other health reimbursement arrangements; Cafeteria Plan Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs); stand alone health insurance and others. Direct impact of choice of business entity on deductibility/excludability of health benefits. Economic and tax analysis models to compare and select the best alternative. Effective CYA practices in selection of and delegation to third party administrators. Hiring a spouse in light of recent court case Agriplan/Bizplan winners and losers. Long-term care insurance: prudence or folly? Making sense of and putting structure around IRS and DOL reporting and other compliance rules. Plan documents required, operational dos and don’ts and non-delegable employer duties. What is and is not a deductible and/or reimbursable medical expense in 2010? Which breeds of health benefit plans can and cannot co-exist side-by-side?
This course enables the participant to master both the basic income tax compliance duties and income tax and economic planning points surrounding health insurance and health benefits through approaches such as HSAs, HRAs, FSAs and others. |
