Finance Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Finance Director is responsible for managing all aspects of a full cycle of accounting functions with adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), reviewing all investment activities, and preparing timely, accurate reports for Foundation Board, Staff, and the Endowment Management Committee (EMC).
The Finance Director serves as a resource for the Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, and Executive Director on issues that could impact the financial health of Foundation. Provides input on new financial opportunities/risks for the Foundation. This is a part-time position with flexible hours.
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:
- Oversees Foundation’s accounting functions. Evaluates internal controls to ensure the Foundation implements appropriate segregation of duties within its small office. Prepares and analyzes financial statements, manages annual audit, and reconciles monthly bank statements. Reviews all expenses for payment. Works with Executive Director to prepare an annual budget for the Treasurer and Finance Committee and makes any subsequent revisions for the Treasurer’s presentation to the Board of Directors.
- Ensures investment advisors are following the Foundation’s Investment Policy. Oversee the finance and investment activities of the Foundation’s 13 named endowments. Works with Executive Director to determines short-term and long-term cash needs for each named endowment. Coordinates with investment advisors to solicit investment options for the EMC’s consideration and prepares supporting reports for quarterly EMC meetings.
- Creates statistical, financial, and other informational reports for the Board of Directors, the EMC, and other Committees such as the Daniel J. Gross Fund.
- Prepares and updates the Named Funds Position Report (13 endowments) monthly.
- Assures quarterly and annual reports of fundraising activities are correct.
- Maintains the Fellows’ pledge payment reports.
- Performs other related duties as needed or assigned by the Executive Director.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
- Prior bank operations and financial management experience preferred.
- Strong administrative, accounting, cash management experience required.
- Understanding and experience with a non-profit environment preferred.
- Must demonstrate an understanding of portfolio investment strategies and practices. Strong financial analysis skills necessary.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and QuickBooks.
- Must have excellent organizational skills and work habits.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-up, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Efficient in handling multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Skilled at working with a wide variety of stakeholders and broad array of personalities.
